Bower, bower, bower
I've been contemplating the structure of the bower today, trying to figure out how to make the framework... Anyhow, I thought a good place to start would be to take a look at the twigs I've been amassing in the garden, so I started stripping them of their leaves and piling them up to see the effect. Not dense enough is what comes to mind first of all. And then: oh my god is it really a good idea to try and plaster that lot (especially since, as you will no doubt realise, the twigs are flexible and the plaster falls off anyway...). I could just spray-paint them; I could just leave them their natural colour. Hmmmm. And I want this thing to be big enough to walk/crawl through, which means it'll be heavy and will need making on site. I'll only be on site for 2 days before it opens and am also supposed to be organising the exhibition, which in effect means organising everybody else as well as myself... And on top of all this I'm having my usual major doubts about the whole installation anyway. I have a very clear picture in my mind of what this thing will look like and absolutely no confidence at all that what I make will look remotely like it's supposed to, which means it will look pants. I definitely do not want it to end up looking like some withy garden sculpture thing. And to get away from that I think I need to get away from the natural material, or at any rate the natural colour of the material. Spray paint. Tomorrow I'll buy spray paint.
