Finally...

For the first time in months (what four or five?) I've updated my website - woohoo!

www.stephanieboon.co.uk (just in case you'd forgotten!)

Something a bit weird has happened today. After three months I finally got around to loading Dreamweaver and an ftp program onto this laptop. Then I sorted out the inevitable headache that goes along with that, mostly to do with the fact that I can't remember all the passwords on the web hosting account... Then this evening, I actually managed to re-get-my-head-around how I edited the Java script on my site to create the slide show on the home page, and I've FINALLY updated the bloody thing. What I can't understand though, is why have the brain cells come together now? I've been in a cloud of mushy thoughts for months and quite frankly think I'm still in the pea-soup; if you'd asked me yesterday how to mess about with Java I'd have asked what the hell you were asking me for...hmm. Well anyway, that's the homepage sorted for a month or two, but what about the rest of it? I kinda updated the exhibitions page and the cv page, but quite frankly I don't know what to do with the rest of it yet...turn it all pink maybe? I've got loads of images to add, but god I'd rather just make some more!

Talking of which, I've been boiling up wax again over the last few days making something for Chantal for Unspoken (see the website!). I managed not to burn myself either. Something's definitely wrong. It could be that I've forced myself to stay awake for two days now; needless to say I'm feeling somewhat sleep deprived, which may of course account for the peculiar behaviour. Or, now you might want to sit down for this, it could be because I've been feeling just a teensy-weensy bit happy over the last couple of days. Don't ask me what's brought that on, I'm just hoping it might last a day or two more...just think what else I could get done.

Anyone got any ritalin?

I'm having major trouble concentrating on anything today: it's a pain in the arse! Despite my distractability, I've managed to make another page for the website showing some images of the small installation Viscera that I made for the exhibition last month. About time...

Well I suppose I should also have given you a link to said new page on www.stephanieboon.co.uk - what do you want, blood?!!! Well actually there is some of my blood on that page...

Unreliable Witness

Found this blog courtesy of today's (Saturday's) Guardian (it does have it's uses), I like it very much and promise to go back...

Facebook

Oh god... been looking at 'I survived Albany School' group on facebook. A couple of points:

a. They are all wearing the wrong bloody uniform - bring back the hideous orange skirts, at least you stood out from the crowd.

b. When did kids get so FAT?!!!!!!!!! LAY OFF THE BURGERS BUNTERS!

Just in case you were wondering, this is NOT a picture of me, but my beautiful little sister and her best friend of the time - she'll kill me if she knew I'd posted this! Ha, I finally get my own back!!!

Hmmm, think I may have had too much rioja this evening!!!

Website

I've just spent the last couple of hours putting a page together showing pictures of the bower for the website... www.stephanieboon.co.uk. If you've been reading this blog you've probably seen them before.

Looking at the pictures I took of it makes me want to remake it - just so that I can get some decent photos! I'm okay at composing them, but total crap when it comes to the technical stuff - if it looks light enough I'll point and click and if I'm feeling really clever I might get the tripod out!!!!! With that amount of skill I'm surprised I get as many that are as okay as they are. But I suppose the truth is that if they look alright I think "it'll do", because in the back of my mind I think I can retake it if I need to. Recently though I've been making these installations and the opportunities for photography are fairly finite: if I don't get it right first time that's it. Maybe I should improve my skills - or (even better) find the money for a professional to do it for me!!! Like that's going to happen...

Philip Larkin

Picked up a book of collected poems in a charity shop today. This one seems perfect to me today...

Dawn

To wake, and hear a cock
Out of the distance crying,
To pull the curtains back
And see the clouds flying -
How strange it is
For the heart to be loveless, and cold as these.

New website

Take a look at talented Tim's new website: it's a good one!

Lots of my friends seem to be very industrious at the moment - putting me to shame. I really must sort out a new ftp and update my own website...

Favicon

I've just added a Favicon to my website - www.stephanieboon.co.uk, in case you'd forgotten the addess! - they're just so cute I had to have one! If you haven't got a clue what I'm on about have a look in your browser's address window, or the tab of the web page, to see the icon. If you want to make one for your site, take a look at Dynamic Drive's free scripts:

Favicon maker- Create a favicon from any image

They're brilliant!

Website success!!!

Well, there's a holding page there that is now working the way it should!!!! Any comments please let me have them before I do any more to it! Do you like the colours? Do you think the nav bar titles are okay? (The links don't work at the moment though...) Have I missed anything? Do you think I need a site map? Let me know!

I've got a headache

If you can hear a regular dull thud, that'll be me banging my head against a brick wall. The new webspace is up and running, but the images aren't showing - aaargh! Dreamweaver is a nightmare to fathom - the javascript I've added in the template works sooooo well, but make a basic html page from it and it goes off on one; one big sulk. Consequently I'm not going to give you the address yet - because there's still nothing to see!!! If I manage to get it sorted I'll let you know, if I don't I'll probably have to start the whole website again :(

Now, where did I put that paracetamol?

New website

Ooooh, scary...I've just bought a domain name and web space! My site won't be up and running for a few days, but I hope to at least have a holding page up by the weekend, which is when I'll let you know the web address - so watch this space. (I thought that if I spent the money it might actually motivate me to finish it!)

Website update

Over the last few days I've got back into designing a website for my artwork again. I've a cunning plan to get it up and running before Christmas, on my computer that is. I'll wait until the new year before it goes live - I envisage many hours sorting out a host and all that sort of stuff. However someone near and dear thinks I should just do it for free by sticking it on MySpace or something similar. I haven't really checked out myspace, but I thought it wasn't much different from a blog. I want something with it's own domain name anyway. You may recall the web site I once had on a free server...there are so many things you can't control - like adverts and how much and when you can load stuff on. Boring!

So, what I've been doing over this weekend and today is making a template for my index page, and finally I'm pretty pleased with the result. It's similar to the original design I posted a while ago (left), but better - well, I think so anyway! It's on a dark background now (but still white where the text is), the masthead is smaller, but the piece-de-resistance is the image...it's no longer just an image but a slide-show. I feel very proud of myself for not only finding some free javascript for the purpose, but also being able to customise it without any problems (maybe I am a genius after all?!!!!!). In fact the site I found it on is so good that I thought I must write this post and share it with all you self-appointed web-designer-come-artists out there...

Website updated

I've spent the entire day trying to sort out the Level 2 website - and it's still a mess...but it's a better mess than it was this morning. At least now you can see most of the pictures of the eleven artists' work at Wheal Art Weekend in August.

I don't know what happened, but when I last tried to sort out the pages the whole thing crashed and seems to have corrupted half the site. It's been a nightmare to sort out and I've tried several times to no avail and deep frustration! Today though, I seem to be almost there - have a look and tell me what you think, and of course let me know where I still need to get the blooming thing working!

Level 2 - finally updated with Wheal Art Weekend pictures!!! (check the gallery on the archive page)

Website ideas

proposed design for website homepage
Hello again! I thought I'd try this out on you for size... (Whatever that means.) As well as contemplating the future life of the blog (see post below), I'm also considering putting together a simple website for my artwork - something to go out on all those begging letters to galleries. I've spent a few hours just messing around with designs and this is my favourite so far. What I'm aiming for is something simple to maintain, something that looks professional, something that hasn't go too many bells and whistles that detract from the images (so I probably won't have any bells!), but something that is still interesting to read and wander round. If you saw this (probably on a stoney coloured background) would you be interested to find out more?

I'd be really pleased if you left any comments - it's much easier to take into account other people's ideas before you start making the html pages, rather than trying to redesign them afterwards. Have a look at some of my freind's sites on the left to see the sort of think I'm aiming for; I particularly like Rupert and Steven's sites (though I preferred Steven's last week when it was on a white background!!! - easier to read.) (You can leave your comments about them too if you want; I'll pass them on!).

Well, I've just realised the time and I promised Kim I'd make some cakes for his friends that are coming round after school. He's insitsted on chocolate, so that means a trip to the corner shop, which invariably means I'll get a bar of chocolate too! Now there's a good reason to get off the sofa!
